“2005 Ford 500 just stalled for no apparent reason. Engine was still running. Pressing gas did nothing. This happened in traffic! It was scary at the least and shortly after I purchased it used from a dealer. As I have read, this happens frequently with this model vehicle. It is obviously recall worthy due to the possibility of accident/harm. This occurred at speeds under 30mph.”
NHTSA complaint #10543455, filed 2013-09, 109,000 miles“Failsafe engine mode light cn just as I was slowing down at a red light that just turned green was trying to speed back up when got message didn't no what was happening cars blowing at me I have my two sons scared because they didn't no what was going on I'm scared because I can't even press the gas so I just stop pray no one hits me from the rear cut the car off and start it back up it starts I end my trip bc I don't no what's wrong I'm a single mom. Thank god we were ok”
NHTSA complaint #10873158, filed 2016-06, 195,200 miles“Started my vehicle as regular, as I shifted into drive my car jerked and my message screen read failsafe engine mode . I cut the car off and restarted it. The same outcome of it jerking and accelerating on it own.”
NHTSA complaint #10760778, filed 2015-09, 72,299 miles“The car has lost the ability to accelerate on the freeway while I was driving it. Had to limp off to the side to try to reset vehicle. After getting to the shoulder of the freeway, I could only drive the car no faster to 35 MPH because there was no throttle response and it would not shift out of first gear. This problem also effects shifting into reverse. When it is occurring you will notice a hard shift into reverse that tears up the gears. This seems to happen every couple months with no notice.”
NHTSA complaint #10560363, filed 2014-01, 146,000 miles“For the past several months my car has been going into failsafe engine mode (basically stalling) while excellerating on highway or in stop and go traffic. According to others online this is a problem that is common with a throttle body failure. I have already had the fix Ford provided in their customer satisfaction program, however like many others this has not fixed the problem. Ford needs to stand by there products. I can not express to you how dangerous this is to be going highway speed and to have your car stall!!”
