“2005 Ford 500 just stalled for no apparent reason. Engine was still running. Pressing gas did nothing. This happened in traffic! It was scary at the least and shortly after I purchased it used from a dealer. As I have read, this happens frequently with this model vehicle. It is obviously recall worthy due to the possibility of accident/harm. This occurred at speeds under 30mph.”

NHTSA complaint #10543455, filed 2013-09, 109,000 miles

“For the past several months my car has been going into failsafe engine mode (basically stalling) while excellerating on highway or in stop and go traffic. According to others online this is a problem that is common with a throttle body failure. I have already had the fix Ford provided in their customer satisfaction program, however like many others this has not fixed the problem. Ford needs to stand by there products. I can not express to you how dangerous this is to be going highway speed and to have your car stall!!”

NHTSA complaint #10781521, filed 2015-10, 200,000 miles

“In 2005 Ford had a recall on the 500 due to the fuel tank strap corroding and falling off causing the fuel tank to leak or fall off when the vehicle had higher mileage. This is what happen to me. When I took my vehicle to the dealer they said the recall had already been fixed. My issue is that either the fix did not work or the dealer claiming to have made the repair did not do it. I contacted Ford customer service and was told there was nothing they could do. This is very dangerous and should not happen! Some one could have died!”

NHTSA complaint #10500585, filed 2013-02, 140,000 miles

“Ran out of gas on freeway and almost got rear ended. Fuel gauge read half full at the time of incident. Filled it up after and no movement to gauge. A few days later the gauge started working properly again. Now we are never sure if the gauge is correct or not.”

NHTSA complaint #10560364, filed 2014-01, 146,000 miles

“Vehicle speeds up after starting engine & put in gear!! Took to two different dealers but they could not find problem. Left dealers & in happened three more times.”

NHTSA complaint #10700863, filed 2015-03, 72,000 miles
