Example complaints

Brakes: “The contact owns a 1993 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that while parked, the emergency brake was engaged and failed to respond. There was a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 94v169001 (parking brake). The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in the expired recall. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10549231, filed 2013-10, 135,000 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “My 1993 Ford Bronco has an esof (electronic shift on the fly) transfer case. With four wheel drive engaged, on road and off, whenever the vehicle is coasting the truck will suddenly act like it is no longer in gear. Shifting into park and and back will not change anything. The truck must be taken out of four wheel drive in order to start driving again. I believe this to be dangerous as it could allow me to not react in the case of an emergency. It think that it is a similar problem to the recall 93v089000.”

NHTSA complaint #11281440, filed 2019-11, 257,000 miles

Tires: “1993 eddie bauer Bronco right front tire blew out. When the tire blewout the consumer lost control o the vehicle and ended up in a shallow ditch. The consumer was able to get the vehicle back on the road and put the spare tire on. The remaining tires were driven another 10000 miles then removed due to bulges in the sidewall. The tires were t hen stored in the consumer's shed. The consumer received a recall on the tire and contacted the manufacturer. The consumer was told to take the tire to the tire dealer and have the tire sent to them. …”

NHTSA complaint #10172231, filed 2006-10, 10,000 miles

Electrical system: “Vehicle parked in driveway. Attempted to start, and upon rotation of ignition switch, smoke started rolling out of steering column. Removed cover to access under cruise control and didn't observe any damage. Attempted to start again, and smoke again rolled out, but this time observed flames flare up with smoke.
