“Plastic intake cracks at heater hose connection. This is a police car which can idle for long periods at a time.this condition leaks antifreeze into the well of the spark plug which causes a misfire, and the car overheats if not constantly watched.we have changed manifolds after calling Ford and we were told only a crack behind the alternator was under warranty.”

NHTSA complaint #10072408, filed 2004-05, 64,176 miles

“On 15 nov 2009, my car started spitting and sputtering, I thought it was bad gasoline. On 16 nov 2009, I had my car checked by my garage, was told that #5 spark plug and coil was bad due to leaking coolant at my intake manifold. After contacting my local Ford dealer thinking I could just buy a part vs. A whole manifold (like I was told I needed), I learned that there had been a recall for this problem and repairs were covered by Ford for only 7 years of auto's life. Well naturally, my car is 9 yrs old now and I'm facing a $1100.00 repair bill. …”

NHTSA complaint #10292412, filed 2009-11, 142,721 miles

“The engine in my 2000 Crown Victoria stalled at a stop sign, and I lost the power steering and power brakes. The car turned into a tank and could not be controlled. It was extremely scary because I could have hit some innocent people which would have meant another lawsuit for Ford. I had to put one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator to get the car to an auto service center. At 38,938 miles, the car needed a new idle speed control motor, air filter, and mass air flow sensor. …”

NHTSA complaint #10071183, filed 2004-01, 38,938 miles

“In june 2004, when my 2000 Crown Victoria had 37082 miles on it, the air conditioner failed to blow cold air; the vehicle was inspected by Ford quality care in gaithersburg, md, where it was determined that the problem was associated with the compressor and the dryer, both of which were replaced. The compressor (part #f3az-19v703-aarm - $391.59) and dryer (part #yw1z-19c836-aa - $139.30) along with other smaller parts were replaced for $543.12, and labor brought to total bill to $1010.62. I asked that the parts be returned, but was told they were core and could not be returned. …”

NHTSA complaint #10106383, filed 2005-01, 37,082 miles

“Intake manifold failure, cracked in rear at heater hose boss that resulted in coolant loss. Also, the #4 ignition coil was damaged by coolant leaking on to it from cracked manifold...”
