“My power steering went out. I was lucky not to have an accident. I have been told there have been recalls on the torque senser in the steering column, on the Ford escapes. The mechanic was able to reset it. I drive in fear of it happening again. He said it would likely happen again. My VIN does not show on the recall.”

NHTSA complaint #11389376, filed 2021-01, 90,000 miles

“Recalled other models identical to mine for the exact issue I am having with the airbag clock spring; however, did not recall mine for some reason. Car has 99.7k miles I am absolutely furious nothing has been done about this issue for select cars while others have been corrected. The dealership my car was taken to was too incompetent to repair the issue.(cactus jacks)”

NHTSA complaint #11302814, filed 2020-01, 99,700 miles

“I was driving my 2008 Ford Escape through a city at around 30 MPH. I was trying to make a turn when the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. I had to give great effort to avoid hitting a parked car. This happened with no warning at all. Even after the event, the steering is still un-assisted with no warnings indicating that anything is wrong.”

NHTSA complaint #11280681, filed 2019-11, 130,000 miles

“My vehicle lost power steering assist. It had momentarily gone out before while I was driving, but resumed function. When I started my car and began backing out of my driveway, the power steering assist failed and did not resume. There is already a recall, 14v284000 for torque sensors failing in 2008 Ford escapes, but a recall was not issued for my vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #11279581, filed 2019-11, 154,000 miles

“The steering in my car was affected. First signs of issue were steering wheel shaking while stopped, parked and driving down the road. Then suddenly while driving the power steering went and thankfully I was only going about 20mph. I was not turning and was able to force the wheels to turn off into the side of the road. I was on a city street in a residential area.”
