“I got a flat tire on the rear right side of a rented 2010 Ford Escape. The enclosed jack is unable to raise the vehicle high enough to allow removal of the flat tire and installation of the spare tire. This was the case even after I placed the jack on a 2 inch board to prop it up. I was fortunate to be within phone contact of a aaa service station so that the tires could be exchanged using a large professional jack. This could have been a serious issue on a country road in the middle of the winter.”

The contact stated that all four tires developed cracks along the tread. The failure had not been diagnosed nor were the tires replaced. The manufacturer had not been notified.
