Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Our Ford 2003 Excursion speed control/cruise control stopped working after the recall repair has been performed. There is brake fluid leaking from the master cylinder on the wiring harness. Ford states they will not repair again for no charge. My complaint is that I believe this should be taken care of at no charge to the consumer. Thank you”

NHTSA complaint #10410294, filed 2011-07, 109,000 miles

“Driver used cruise control on tollway, got off tollway fire started 1/4 mile from exit. Ford Excursion v 10 gas engine, cruise control deactivation switch failure got hot causing engine fire. The diesel engines were recalled for the same reason. This vehicle is a limousine/qvm. Nhtsa campaign # 07v078000 manufacture campaign # 05s28.”

NHTSA complaint #10390081, filed 2011-03, 31,600 miles

“Cruise control stuck; does not release with pressure on brake pedal. The cruise will only release with the cruise 'off' button on the steering wheel or if brake pedal is pushed to the floor. This is dangerous and has the potential to cause a rear-end collision. Plan to take it to dealer next week; hopefully this will be covered even though vehicle warranty has expired. I won't use cruise until then.”

NHTSA complaint #10241806, filed 2008-09, 57,000 miles

“When in speed control at 55 MPH after a long down hill the cruise control will sometimes cause the engine to stall. This occurs while the vehicle is still traveling at 20-30mph. The result is loss of steering control and power brakes. The engine can be restarted immediately. Reported problem to selling dealer on about 11 november 2003. No action taken. Reported problem to service dealer on approximately 15 feb 2004. Updated rom. Reported problem again to service dealer on 19 march 2004. Re-flashed rom. Otherwise no action taken.”

NHTSA complaint #10066228, filed 2004-04, 10,500 miles

“Tamara recall while driving or stopped the cars power does 100% shut off. No codes or warning lights. In dec/2016 driving on a on a east on charleston blvd in nv, after pulling out of cit bank parking lot going about 45 MPH the light turned red and when I went to break the pedal was hard and that's when I saw no power. By then it was too late and we were going to crash. I had no power steering or ABS and I hit the car. It caused 12000 of damage to the car in front of me. No airbags deployed. Only bumper and fog light damage to my truck thankfully. …”
