Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“During regeneration of the diesel particulate filter the truck loses power and operates roughly. This last occurred as I was merging into traffic on the highway during slick road conditions. This could have very easily resulted in loss of traction and/or collision as I was unable to accelerate to speed.”

NHTSA complaint #10819844, filed 2016-01, 5,100 miles

“I have a f350 2015 vehicle, having an engine knock noise and hesitation problems right after the engine knocks. I have experienced these concerns five times. The dealership is saying is a characteristic of the vehicle due to california regulations. There is a TSB to the concern that I am having, but I don't think my vehicle should have the heads rebuilt since I just purchased it back in dec 2015. What is the state doing to have this concern resolve? …”

NHTSA complaint #10860805, filed 2016-04, 8,000 miles

“On my 2115 Ford f 350 powerstroke diesel the check engine light came on and it de rated the power. I read the cel code and its pb20a which is a redactant heater performance failure. This problem is covered under warranty for all models 2011-14, f250-f 550 and 2015 f450, f550 only. Ford isn't covering the f250 of f350 in the 2015 years. My truck meets the date and manufacturing plant criteria and it is no drivable because of this emissions control part failure. The redacdant heater keeps the diesel exhaust fluid from freezing and renders the vehicle un drivable when it falis.”

NHTSA complaint #11265376, filed 2019-10, 97,000 miles

“At 40 to 50 MPH the truck can experience loss of power and severe shuddering we have 2 2015's that we purchased last september and both are experience the same issue it's very sporadic seems to happen a few times a week. I'm concerned for the safety of my company as we can be pulling trailers and can not have this type of behavior when on busy roads. Ford knows there is an issue as stated in TSB 16-0041, but they will not attempt to correct it unless their techs see it happen..I have already had it into the shop and they couldn't see the problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10907541, filed 2016-09, 7,000 miles

“Diesel exhaust fluid reductant heater fault, check engine light has illuminated and is not covered under previous recalls. Recurring problem for Ford super duty that needs to be extended for this model as it is the same problem that previous attention was given to. It is a emissions problem that fails on these trucks.”

NHTSA complaint #11187014, filed 2019-03, 55,250 miles
