“Every morning when I start my car and begin to accelerate, the wrench icon will appear on the dashboard and I lose all control over acceleration. The car comes to a stop. If I restart car, it drives fine for the rest of the day until the next morning. I believe it is a throttle body sensor problem. This is not safe at all. Especially with a child.”
NHTSA complaint #10543951, filed 2013-09, 48,600 miles“Traveling around 75 passing a truck when we lost all response from the pedal and had to veer into ditch to avoid collision. ..service lights came on and car idled rough we cycled the key and regained pedal control..changed pedal and still have had the issue multiple times. Vehicle will remain parked not replacing a 400 dollar throttle body that has been failing on multiple years of the Focus the factory should handle this is a hazard.”
NHTSA complaint #10533343, filed 2013-08, 35,000 miles“My yellow wench check engine light came on,I was stopped at a 4 way city intersection and when I stepped on the gas pedal the car would not pick up any speed. I was stuck with traffic behind me. I had to go through the intersection at idle speed pull off the road, turn the car off and wait a few seconds then restart it. I was then able to drive it and the yellow check engine light was no longer on.the yellow light check engine light has come on before and I had goodyear and auto zone check it on their computer and it came up with code p2135 throttle sensor. …”
NHTSA complaint #11231458, filed 2019-07, 67,000 miles“Sudden loss of power while in motion, wrench light coming on. My teenage daughter has almost been involved in a couple of serious accidents because of this. I understand it is a known issue with the throttle body, but while Ford has extended the warranty on explorers and a few other models so owners can have new parts installed, it has not extended the warranty to the Focus ' this despite thousands of online complaints from Focus owners. This repair will cost me about $700, and I cannot afford it. I will never again purchase a Ford.”
NHTSA complaint #10899444, filed 2016-08, 77,210 miles“While driving my car, I was stopped at a red light and when it turned green I was unable to accelerate. The wrench light was on and I couldn't move my car. I had my grandchildren with me and it was very scary to say the least. It has happened on the highway where I was unable to accelerate and had to put on my hazard lights and reset the car. I have seen online there are similar issues with the Ford Focus and there should be a recall. I am lucky that I and my grandchildren didn't get seriously injured.”
