“At 66,000 miles my 2005 Ford Freestar van developed a high-pitched whine at highway speeds it started only when van had been driven for some distance but increased in frequency. Took to a shop and it was diagnosed as bearing failure in both front hubs simultaneously. Very expensive to repair ($775).”
NHTSA complaint #10225753, filed 2008-04, 66,430 miles“Ford Freestar 2005. The radio flashes phone and runs down the battery. It was replaced by Ford, still having the same problem. They don't know what is causing this. Next, transmission failed at 71,000. The torque converter came apart internally and sent metal through the transmission destroying it. When having the transmission replaced by Ford, they found that the drivers cv joint was bad. We changed the cv joint/ trans axle combo, it is now bad again.”

Consumer took vehicle to the dealership three days after purchasing it. The dealership kept the car for 5 days and could not figure out what the problem was. The dealer changed the rotors twice and changed the tires. Consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, and the dealership had the car for 17 days. The Ford representative came to the dealership and put the vehicle on the diagnostic machine and the Ford representative seemed to think that was the tires. …”
NHTSA complaint #10131883, filed 2005-08, 30 miles“I have a 2005 Freestar sport van. When it is relatively hot outside and I've driven for about an hour or so, there is this loud squealing noise coming from the front of my van. It is very annoying and gets louder with time traveled. I've taken this van back to the dealer from where it was purchased. They've replaced the brake pads saying that this could be the problem. It didn't change, the squealing kept coming. The mechanic said that he had done some form of research through the internet and thinks it could be the wheel bearing. What a scare this is!!!!! Has anyone had this same problem?? …”
NHTSA complaint #10336742, filed 2010-06“The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving 10 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal noise.
