“While driving 35-40 MPH, the front passenger side wheel separated from the vehicle. No injuries to report. The vehicle was towed to the repair shop. The mechanic informed the consumer that all the lug nuts had shear off. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified.”
NHTSA complaint #10105024, filed 2004-12, 76,000 miles“On left rear wheel, the nut which holds the tire to the spindle spun off of the axle/spindle assembly while driving on the interstate. The entire wheel/drum assembly parted from the vehicle and bounced off down the road as I was driving. Major mechanical failure in the parts which are machined not to come loose, but additionally there are no safety mechanisms to prevent this from happening again to other drivers or owners of this vehicle.”
