“2017 Genesis G80, all wheel drive, 3.8 l engine. Car was being driven on a 4 lane expressway in heavy, rush hour traffic using advanced cruise control set near speed limit. G80 was in the left lane attempting to pass a vehicle on the right. There was a vehicle ahead of the G80. Driver noticed another vehicle coming up fast from behind until it was very close to the rear of the G80. When driver attempted to accelerate away from tailgating car, engine revved, and did not engage. It appeared disconnected from transmission as if in neutral. Tachometer needle swung wildly. …”

NHTSA complaint #11282092, filed 2019-11, 24,300 miles

“The hyundai genesis and the genesis G80 have an oil pressure sensor defect. Practically, everyone i know with a genesis, in particular the 3.8 L engine, has this issue. The oil pressure sensor illuminates even though the engine oil level is fine and this issue can occur at any time regardless of mileage. I'd be surprised if this issue has not been reported to you all.”

NHTSA complaint #11630128, filed 2024-12

“I am the original owner and when my vehicle reached approximately 65,000 miles just past the warranty the oil service light would come on sometimes then go out. i have had documented oil changes from my dealer approximately every 3500 miles. Everything seems to be normal in the car and the oil level checked on a regular basis is always ok. When the RPM rises above 2000 rpm the oil service light goes out and returns when the rpm is lower. …”

NHTSA complaint #11512063, filed 2023-03

“I was made aware that my car has a recall. I took it to the dealership (World Car Kia Hyundai North, San Antonio, TX) to get fixed and they told me that there is no remedy for it. I stressed to them that I was worried about my car and that I have a child that is always in the car with me. They told me to keep looking on google and that google would tell me when there is a fix. I would like a different car or my money back but it seems like they will not do that for me.”

NHTSA complaint #11583934, filed 2024-04

“The car randomly does not turn on when I press the start button. Nothing happens. It's not the key fob either because absolutely nothing works in the car at that point. I can't open the trunk using the button inside the car, lock or unlock the doors, nothing. The car is essentially a useless hunk of metal. After about 15-20 minutes though, the car will just randomly turn on. I don't press the start button - it'll just turn on. This has happened on 3 separate occasions so far.”
