“12/31/2017 1000 am nebraska temperature around -1, windchill -25-30, left heated garage drove 40 miles parked the car, front of the car into the wind at a parking lot, return about 1.5 hours later and the steering assist would not work. Appears the cold temps effected the steering somehow also received an immediate warning at start up to take car to dealer for diagnostic and possible repair. Dealer is not open until tuesday. Managed to get home put back in garage, checked steering assist about 3 hours later and the steering assist was working.”

“As I am driving and I make a turn, the wheel actually locks and I cannot steer. It was very frightening. At first I thought it was the lane change device, but I made sure that was off, and it happened twice more. I had the car towed to the Napleton Hyundai dealership in Lake park, FL and they said the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They quoted over $10,000 for the repair. THe car is a 2017 Genesis G80 with 23,000 original miles. THere were no warning lamps or other symptoms.”

NHTSA complaint #11766589, filed 2026-09

“When steering car to left 2 or 3 times some days it sticks and I have to yank it back. Obvious safety hazard and I see where other owners on car blogs/sites have experienced the same dangerous situation. Sounds like on chat rooms dealers and mfg. acting like they've never heard of such a thing. Time for a recall? I'm taking to dealer this coming Wednesday. They have a bulletin out I just saw on your website number 20-st-004hg which may be the fix. Isn't this a possible life threatening situation?Shouldn't this be a recall?”

NHTSA complaint #11426259, filed 2021-07

“The contact owns a 2017 Genesis G80. While driving various speeds and making left turns, the steering wheel would not return to its normal position. The contact indicated that the failure only occurred while making left turns and would return to the straight position after making right turns. The vehicle was taken to twin city hyundai (3121 3024 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11257952, filed 2019-09, 42,000 miles

“When you press on the gas accelerator- the car only moves at a few miles per hour. This is intermittent but makes the car undriveable and very dangerous to drive in traffic. The throttle body was replaced but now geneis says it is another electrical issue and the car needs a new harness- but gensis no longer makes this part (the harness) so Genesis even under my warranty cannot fix the car Genesis says it is a harness issue and they don't have and cannot get the part- hence they cannot fix the car”
