Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“When I slow down to make a turn regardless if I turn right or left it's very hard to steer. Sometimes it makes a whining noise that it's never made before until now and as of this past weekend any time I try to turn its extremely hard. I almost got hit several times just trying to get my car home from a friend's house. My husband checked the power steering fluid and it's full.”

NHTSA complaint #11327782, filed 2020-06, 295,676 miles

“Serious safety issue with power steering. Apparently the driveshaft is broken an it makes the car almost impossible to turn. I have to use both hands/arms and all of my strength to turn the car. This is a safety issue and Gmc has already recalled many of their vehicles for this same issue. Acadias need to be added to that list.”

NHTSA complaint #11098771, filed 2018-05, 104,000 miles

“I have been having an issue with my power steering going in and out for months. My mechanic says there is a recall, but when I run the VIN I get nothing for the power steering. I took it in for an oil change today and he almost refused to service my truck due to the issue and safety concerns of his employees. My truck has around 110000 miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10924008, filed 2016-11, 89,000 miles

“I'm having the same issue that everyone is complaining about where I lose power when at low speed trying to enter or exiting a parking space. The steering wheel becomes very stiff. Gmc recall was for steering pump but is making customers replace rack and pinion stating its unrelated and if not replaced it will not honor the 10 year warranty on the steering pump replacement”

NHTSA complaint #11019043, filed 2017-08, 126,000 miles

“I have had 2 engines replaced in this truck and now the air conditioning is not working and plus no power steering. The truck will steer upon speed. Cannot parallel park because of this. When making a turn regardless of left or right I have to step on the gas in order to steer the car.”

NHTSA complaint #11244807, filed 2019-08, 106,255 miles
