“On the duramax diesel, while under a load (towing, full bed) fuel lines collapse causing several check engine lights and vehicle to go into limp mode. Must release vacuum in fuel system (by loosening the fuel filter then re-bleeding the fuel system) in order for the code to go off. Happened several times, once while towing up hill. If this had caused an accident, I would have been a GM share holder. Vehicle has stalled out several times in the winter due to a combination of the winter diesel and the vacuum fuel system. Once while on an icy road, on my way to work at 4am. …”
NHTSA complaint #10627007, filed 2014-08, 100,000 miles“I was traveling at approx. 50mph with two passengers, weather clear, when we smelled a hint of burning plastic. Continued traveling and after 2 or so miles the truck slowed and acted as though it was running out of fuel. Pulled to side passenger in back seat noticed the truck was on fire between the bed and cab underneath. Witness who was behind in another vehicle stated that sparks were flying from the truck while going down the road previous to my pulling over. …”
NHTSA complaint #10185389, filed 2007-03, 75,000 miles“While replacing the fuel injectors under a special injector warranty, the dealership broke a glowplug off and called to say I need to replace the cylinder head at my cost. Call Gmc customer support who say due to the age and mileage 2001, 124500. That the corrosion of the glowplug and the fact it seized in the cylinder head is not there problem, even though they are the one who designed the engine. They said that it's at my cost for a new cylinder head which was quoted to me over the phone at a price of $1,800.00.”
NHTSA complaint #10221961, filed 2008-03, 124,500 miles“The accelerator sticks and is extremely difficult to depress. The carburetor design allows carbon to build up in the throttle body throat. I often have to hit the accelerator with my foot to dislodge the butterfly. This happens worse after the vehicle has been setting for an hour or so. It will also happen after departure while setting in traffic or at stop lights. I use mid grade fuel and the truck is well maintained. The dealership wants to charge up to $100 to clean the carbon out only to have it return in a matter of months. …”
NHTSA complaint #10102674, filed 2004-12, 35,000 miles“I understand GM had a recall on the brake booster sytem and also a few years back a recall on replacing all the fuel injectors on the diesel engine ! I am oringinal owner at the same address when I purchased the vehicle new ! I missed the recalls because I never was notified ! Its sad to buy a GM product and they don't alert me to a recall ! What's up with this?”
