Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Door lock remote fails to open locks. If I'm inside the car, sometimes the driver's door lock will be jammed down, and key will not open from outside. Nothing worked, I had to crawl over the console and exit by the passenger door. Definitely a safety issue, since it could happen in an emergency.”

NHTSA complaint #10481559, filed 2012-10, 76,000 miles

“Door will not unlock on front passenger side. This is not a child safety lock issue. Seems like a common problem after a review of the internet. In a crash or fire passenger would have to crawl to the other side of the car or through a window to get out. Responders would have no way to open the door from the outside.”

NHTSA complaint #10633017, filed 2014-09, 200,000 miles

“Could not lock drivers door with remote key lock, other doors locked. Could only unlock or lock drivers door with non remote key. Replaced actuator and cable.”

NHTSA complaint #10307941, filed 2010-02, 82,229 miles

“The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the chrome around the rear passengers side door handle was broken. A passenger was in the rear of the vehicle and sustained a deep cut to her right hand and was taken to the hospital where x-rays were taken and the doctor placed stitches in the child's wound. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10399779, filed 2011-05, 120,000 miles

“Rear door locks do not work when using driver door lock switch control. Rear door lock on driver side does not open from inside even when door lock switch is in up position. Can only be opened from the outside.”
