“I was driving on a rural 2-lane road when my mini-van started to slid across the road due to an ice/snow covering. My van slid across the lane and slammed head-on into a large tree. The entire front-end of the van was destroyed, but my air-bags never deployed. Both the police officer and tow-truck driver were dismayed at this. Fortunately, I only have a slight concussion and whiplash (thanks to my safety-belt).”

NHTSA complaint #10307900, filed 2010-02, 177,500 miles

“2000 Honda Odyssey ex. On 5/25/09 I was rear ended by a vehicle going approximately 125mph; I was traveling 45 MPH. Once hit, I had no control of the car, it jumped the curb, went into the woods while still moving. The front of my van then hit a tree. There was substantial front end damage. None of the air bags deployed. I don't know if the seat belt locked properly either. When the front was hit, battery and air filter area was bent upwards towards the dash and bumper came off, along with major wheel damage/bending along with hood damage. …”

NHTSA complaint #10279772, filed 2009-08, 92,000 miles

“When I bumped a metal sign in the walmart parking lot on feb 18 2002 driving 5 MPH, my airbags deployed and the seat belts froze. I found in the manual that they are only suppose to deploy upon moderate to severe impact. I along with 3 other body shops and my insurance, state farm, felt that the air bags deployed faulty and never should have gone off. There was no other damage to the vehicle, demonstrating how lightly the sign was hit. This was an expensive defect that I would like to report, in case it should happen to someone else. …”

NHTSA complaint #10008786, filed 2002-04, 46,000 miles

“I received a recall notice in march 2020 for my 2000 Odyssey. I have received no further notices. I called a Honda dealer and the manufacturer today and both told me they do not have replacement parts and have no timeline for when these replacement parts will be available. I am concerned about safety as this vehicle is 2o years old and is high mileage.”

NHTSA complaint #11360459, filed 2020-09

“I received a notice from Honda in march that my 2000 Odyssey needed driver side airbag replacement. I was notified that the issue could potentially lead to a fatality. I was also notified that no parts are available. Six months later, we still don't have any information about the progress of the new airbag part, and I'm having trouble believing that Honda is making this a priority.”
