“2001 Honda Odyssey driver side seat weld failure. Twice in two different locations under the drivers side seat. Electric seat drive shaft linkage fail with out warning causing the seat to suddenly fall backwards. I was able to regain control of the moving car and had my mechanic repair the weld. The 2nd time on 16 jan 2011, same seat, the frame weld failed. Again while driving I heard a load snap and the seat suddenly fell back.”

NHTSA complaint #10161754, filed 2006-07, 50,000 miles“Center passenger seat back does not lock into place endangering occupant during a roll over or sudden stop / accident situation. Sometimes it locks, sometimes it does not, and also during hard impact force on the seat back the seat back will start to move freely . Dealer refused to entertain defect request to address. Dealer also refused to provide a part information that shows the locking mechanism so that a replacement could be obtained. The apparent defect appears to be a design and/or manufacturing problem.
