Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“If I do not fill the auto with a premium blend gasoline the car will inconsistently over rev and jerk into gear if I accelerate somewhat suddenly. This response is quite odd and could cause an accident since the car kicks into gear rather hard after accelerating and then letting off the gas. The sensation is the same as experiencing a light but loud rear end collision from behind. The car is luxurious and big therefore, you wouldn't expect this type jolting from the drive train.”

NHTSA complaint #11186004, filed 2019-03, 60,253 miles

“Sudden loss of power at freeway speed. Driving at freeway speed late at night with adaptive cruise control on, I accelerated and changed lanes to the left to avoid a collision with an inattentive driver. Immediately after changing lanes to the right to return to my lane, the car stopped responding to throttle input. Rpm gradually decreased to zero and the car stalled. No warning lights until the engine stopped at the right shoulder of the freeway. I restarted the engine. Still no warning lights. …”

NHTSA complaint #10849808, filed 2016-03, 240 miles

“Changed lanes at 30 to 40 MPH in a residential area, removed foot from gas pedal, heard engine revving high then within one to two seconds I felt and heard a hard bang and heavy push. Thought someone hit me, but no one did. Car startled me and my wife. It felt like the engine disconnected from the transmission, then reengaged, which gave the sudden outcome. This has been three weeks and no further incident. I could only imagine if this happened on a high way or at a critical point of driving. I think it can be a safety concern.”

NHTSA complaint #10992710, filed 2017-06, 5,600 miles

“We have a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8L Sedan w/90,000 miles and the Oil Pressure Sensor light came on. It seems, based on our research, that this is a common issue with this engine. The repair is quite expensive and seems to be a design flaw.”

NHTSA complaint #11564880, filed 2024-01

“Car is shutting off when stopped. When it shuts off, the engine light comes on, the battery lights, the EPS, the master warning light, the FCA system light, and the EPB. When the engine shuts off, I still have power to my car and the radio still playing but nothing to my engine. I brought my car to 2 different mechanic and brought it to the dealership today and they are saying there’s nothing wrong with my car. My car have been shutting off all this month and that’s not normal,”
