“2000 Hyundai Sonata sub frame rusted out, this vehicle is used by my son to commute to college daily and it's a miracle that he didn't have an accident. The right front tire also needs replacing even though it is almost new due to the damage caused by the sub-frame literally falling apart . I see this has been investigated before, why was no recall issued?”
NHTSA complaint #10260938, filed 2009-03, 98,000 miles“My mechanic found a fist-sized hole in the subframe of my 2000 Hyundai Sonata v6. There are 125,000 miles on the car. My mechanic told me that this should not occur and it is very dangerous. At this point it has not been repaired, because it is very expensive and I can not be without my car for the time of the repair.”
NHTSA complaint #10256058, filed 2009-01, 125,000 miles“I had to replace my subframe in june 2007 (2000 hundai Sonata gls v6). Luckily it was caught before an accident happened. It very obviously was due to problems the same problems listed in campaign 089. Why am I not being offered a full refund for my damage as well? Because I bought the car from my sister, they would not honor the warrantee. I bought this car in 2005 and it had 28,000 miles on it.”
NHTSA complaint #10307032, filed 2010-02, 50,638 miles“The sub frame has rusted out on my 2000 Hyundai Sonata. I have been told it is very dangerous to drive. I purchased this car 5 yrs ago from a dealer in lexington, ky. I have been told it is highly unusual that a car that is 8 yrs. Old would have such a severe problem and that I should not keep the car, or that I should replace the frame which will be very expensive to do.”
NHTSA complaint #10250680, filed 2008-12, 89,000 miles“I was approaching a red light and when I pressed my brakes my driving axle separated from my front driver's side tire. After that happened a mechanic lifted my car up and we saw that the frame was almost completely covered with rust. I called the customer service number for the company that makes the vehicle where I was informed that the vehicle frame is under recall and is to be replaced. …”
