Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Trunk was opening on its own intermittantly. This was our 55000 mile scheduled service so we reported it. They checked and found nothing wrong but told us they greased the trunk latch and it should be fixed. A few weeks later it is happening again. We think its an electronic defect, but by the time they figure it out we'll be out of warranty. We don't dare put anything of value in the car.”

NHTSA complaint #10444056, filed 2012-01, 55,000 miles

“The passenger side front door lock does not lock or move and the door remains open while driving. It happened in the last couple of weeks. Noticed when doors were locked remotely and the passenger side front was able to be opened, we see there are a number of door lock linkage recalls and service notices.”

NHTSA complaint #10360852, filed 2010-10, 88,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the latches on the rear passenger and driver side doors fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the door latches needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10925308, filed 2016-11

“The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed to work when attempting to turn the key over. The vehicle failed to start randomly on several occasions. In addition, the door latches failed to open from outside and inside the vehicle. The dealer and an independent mechanic were notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.”
