“The contact stated that the front driver side seat belt buckle failed to stay latched. During the failure, the vehicle was not in motion. The buckle would fit in the latch but would not click. The dealership was contacted and denied to repair the defect without charging for the repair. The contact expressed that a broken spring in the seatbelt latch may be the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10160583, filed 2006-06, 100,000 miles

“I have a Jeep Wrangler, 1995. The female end of the driver's side seat belt is no longer latching securely. The male end will self-release periodically and it requires repeated latching to secure the seat belt. This problem developed recently and will apparently require a replacement of the seat belt female end.”

“The driver side seat belt confines consumer to her seat, can barely reach the radio, passenger side seat belt does not retract into casing and the push button sticks, also the passenger has to hold the button down to lock in the belt, the back seat belts work the same way or don't work at all.”

NHTSA complaint #560892, filed 2001-04

“Please add VIN. Consumer's son was driving approximately 30-35mph when leaving a four-way stop at approximately 100yards while still in third gear, vehicle flipped over. The top of Jeep grazed a pole and the roll bar broke. Also the seat belts were shreaded, and broken loose. The driver was killed.”
