“1997 Mazda 626 his car continues to have transmission problems. All of the problems are intermittent. Occasionally the car will not accelerate even when the RPM's climb. The automatic transmission shifts hard, it slams from gear to gear especially when shifting up a gear. Overdrive slips in and out, the overdrive light flashes when the overdrive slips. There is one isolated incident on a long highway trip where the car would not go above 45. It started to smoke and so I pulled over and shut off the car. …”

NHTSA complaint #10025651, filed 2003-07, 60,000 miles

“I was told in a letter by Mazda that the reason my brakes go out is because I ride my brakes and that my account was noted for this. The only problem is no one from Mazda can give me a copy of the documented proof that this is the problem. They can't tell me at all what or why my tranmisson has gone out.”

NHTSA complaint #706234, filed 1999-05

“In addition to smelling gas - the radio and antenna doesn't work. Now the sunroof won't close all the way. The check engine light comes on more often than not since I had the car. The key sometimes won't fit into door lock and even though the car looks brand new and has been well taken care off - it just seems to fall apart. The glove compartment lock fell apart but the biggest thing is the sunroof won't close all the way. This is my 3rd Mazda and I will never buy another one.”

NHTSA complaint #10069215, filed 2004-01

“Rotors have been replaced three times with 38,000 miles on vehicle. Brakes get wet and they squeal. Dealer contacted, and stated the problem was normal. Speedometer RPM will go way up when driving and car is warm. Dealer stated this problem was normal. Please provide more information.”

NHTSA complaint #832823, filed 1998-12

“Brakes have worn unevenly and when braking at high speeds vehicle pulls to side. Pads wear unevenly and sticks at times. Vehicle once spun 540deg when braking on hwy. Third set of pads installed on vehicle since purchased. Mostly hwy driving.”
