“I have a 2010 Mercury milan. This has been an intermittent problem: sometimes the car feels like it does a hard gear shift--the wrench light comes on and the car loses power. I still have power steering and power brakes but pressing on the gas does nothing. If I turn off the engine and restart, it is fine--sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for a few months.”

NHTSA complaint #10648307, filed 2014-10, 74,000 miles

“The car was inside an attached garage with children buckled into their carseats. My husband was in the driver seat. I was standing outside the car waving bye to the kids. When my husband started the car, we heard an odd sound, then saw smoke and flame coming from between the carseats. We got the kids out, and I called 911 while my husband popped the trunk and put the garden hose on the flames. The hybrid battery was on fire. When firefighters arrived, they sprayed fire retardant foam on the car and pushed it out of the garage. The fire burned through the back seat on the passenger side. …”

“Was alerted that my left rear passenger tail light on my 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid was abnormally bright and that brake light did not change illumination level. Took car to dealership and was informed that entire assembly was faulty and would need to be replaced for $600. I have an extended warranty, premiumcare ecp, and was told that this was not a warranty eligible item and is instead considered consumable because there are leds involved. There are no bulbs burned out, they are highly illuminated all the time due to a manufacturing defect. This is a safety issue, not a convenience issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10668810, filed 2014-12, 97,000 miles

“A few months ago, the speaker for the rear parking aid and cross-traffic warning system became muffled, followed by random flashing of two dash warning lights reading check rear park aid and cross traffic system fault. The basic warning systems still functioned. At a service visit to my ford dealer, the computer codes were read and system reboot was performed. As the dealer invoice states, if light comes back on will need parking aid module and speaker $567.00 plus tax. …”

NHTSA complaint #10760817, filed 2015-09, 37,500 miles

“The car would inexplicably stop during driving and display the red triangle with the message stop safely intermittently soon after the time it was bought. But upon turning it off it would restart. The dealerships did not find anything to fix. The red triangle display and sudden loss of power while driving defect steadily worsened and became so frequent that it interfered with driving. But each time the car would restart and drive. It was again reported to your dealership when it was brought in for service at about 48,000 miles. Again I was told that there was no problem. …”
