“2004 Mercury Mountaineer v8, 47,000 miles. Transmission is shot. It slipped in and out or reverse (creating a very dangerous situation since I could not control the vehicle when it was in reverse) and it struggled to shift gears in drive. No warning light before the problems began. The vehicle aged out of warranty in july 2010. Ford will not pay for anything (although the dealer is cutting me a break on the service costs).”
NHTSA complaint #10371151, filed 2010-12, 47,000 miles“Consumer noticed that while the dvd/ television set was engaged the rear mirrors became inoperative. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed consumer that the problem could not be fixed because it was designed that way.”
NHTSA complaint #10073603, filed 2004-05, 100 miles“Purchased a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer back in march. Noticed a chirping noise at about 1500 miles when the air conditioner cycled on and off. Dealer replaced compressor. Chirping came back at about 3500 miles, so I took it back and the dealer adjusted the clutch air gap. They said it was fine, but found that while driving the vehicle home it was still doing it. Dealer said it has no idea what the problem is and has so far not offered to do anything about the problem.”
