“We were driving along a major interstate when the rear of the car became difficult to handle. Approximately five seconds later, the left rear tire blew out at 70 MPH in the number one lane causing the car to lose control. No road damage was apparent in the tire.”
NHTSA complaint #10088756, filed 2004-08, 52,000 miles“Consumer stated that all four rims were bent, and front two tires leaked. The dealer in consumer's area closed down, and there was no contact with the manufacturer.”
NHTSA complaint #10083686, filed 2004-07, 41,000 miles“My rims are two-piece and have had 3 bent rims and 3 blowouts due to these rims. This is compounded by the fact that the gt tires are low-profile. These rims are easily dented, the clear coating peeled off after a short period of time. I have all the documentation and have had meetings with jeff ney at max madsen. I have pictures of all bent rims that I can fax or e-mail to you as well.”
NHTSA complaint #758771, filed 2002-02“While driving on the highway under normal circumstances suddenly the car started vibrating, first lightly then harder. I pulled over and saw the problem, one of the tires shredded the tread and then it just 'auto-destroyed'. It's under warranty (less than one year and only 13000 miles) but am reporting it just in case I'm not the only one with this problem. ( DOT number: )”
NHTSA complaint #739222, filed 2001-01“I was forced off the road while making a turn at an intersection, I struck the curb wth the right front wheel. The impact (at a low rate of speed) broke the rim and blew out the tire. There was also damage to the sub frame that has lead to alignment issues. At the time, I thought it was a freak incident until I recently heard of other cases involving rims. I had to pay for all th repairs out of my pocket. The dealer did not mention any problems with the wheels or offer o look into the situation.”
