“While driving my car yesterday, the lower control arm snapped. Luckily I was just about to get on the freeway when it happened. I was coming up the ramp to get to the free way which was a curve and I heard a noise and briefly lost control of my vehicle until I stopped. I am sure rust contributed to it but my mechanic was he'd never seen it happen like that.”

NHTSA complaint #11413737, filed 2021-04, 117,000 miles

“Rear passenger control arm broke at attachment to car body. One half of the weld shows crack and prior corrosion. I was driving on the expressway and noticed handling issues and car sagging on passenger side. I pulled off to a side street and drove local streets the 4 miles to my home. Control arm broke in my driveway as I was backing up.”

NHTSA complaint #11403876, filed 2021-03, 93,504 miles

“I was driving in the passing lane at 65mph in heavy traffic at rush hour on the interstate. The right front control arm failed and I was able to maintain control and pull off the right shoulder of highway. The car was towed to the Nissan dealer. The right front control arm was rusted apart and the left arm was intact but was also heavily rusted”

NHTSA complaint #11193620, filed 2019-04, 112,000 miles

“Driving slow in a 25mph neighborhood made a turn heard a clunk thought I had a flat turned around less than a 1/2 a mile back home less than a block. Had I made it to the freeway the results could've been much worse. Called my mechanic and he ordered a part, decided to look and it seems this may be a problem with these cars”

NHTSA complaint #11363969, filed 2020-10, 79,000 miles

“Our 17 year old son was driving ur 2014 Nissan Altima about a 1/4 mile from our home. He hit a bump and immediately felt the steering pull. He got home and we looked under the car and saw that the rear control arm was rusted thru and had broken. Thankfully he was not on the interstate or going faster when this happened.”
