“My husband was injured when we were rear-ended by another vehicle. The height of the seat back is too low to provide protection from whiplash. It bothers me that the seat design remains unchanged in the 2002 models. There should be adjustable head restraints for all passenger seats.”
NHTSA complaint #764887, filed 2002-07“Accident occurred on freeway in spokane,wa. Traffic was stopped in my lane. I was hit in right rear corner after I had come to complete stop. This caused us to be thrown counterclockwise and forward. My wife's seatback gave way, causing her to fall backwards and striking her head on the sliding door window. This shattered the window, fortunately only causing my wife neck and back strain, and not cutting her at all. Upon contacting the manufacturer, we were told the seat mechanism did not break, but bent which is what they said is as designed to prevent neck and back injuries. …”
NHTSA complaint #753498, filed 2001-10“Driver's seat was leaning more then normal. Taken to an independent repair shop, and informed consumer that problem may be due to metal fatigue. Notified dealer. Dealer informed consumer that it was not covered under a manufacturer's recall. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.”
NHTSA complaint #895137, filed 2001-08“Driver's and passenger's side door hinges broke, causing door to hang down. Also, driver seat recliner mechanism broke, causing seatback to fall to the floor. Recliner mechanism broke twice. Chrysler factory representative considers the seats in the car to be trim, and as such, it is not a safety issue.”
NHTSA complaint #838391, filed 1999-11“Consumer states that when braking and without warning the driver seat will fully recline back causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified ts”
