“For about 100 miles or so before total failure, we noticed a slight whining sound, plus some instances of slightly erratic shifting. A check of the transmission fluid showed it to be at the proper level. It looked clean, and had no burned smell. The transmission quit working at estelline, texas, on us 287. I had to call a towing service, and was towed to childress, texas. Ther are no Plymouth or chrysler dealers in childress, so we went to a local transmission shop. They were able to get the transmission repaired in about a week , at a cost of $1772.50. Towing was $60. …”

NHTSA complaint #716718, filed 2000-01

“The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the power failed and the vehicle was coasted to a stop. When the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, the problem was identified as a failed PCM (power control module, which was replaced. Later, the air conditioning fuse blew. When the vehicle was returned to the service dealer, the problem was identified as worn wiring at the connection to the fuse box. The wiring was repaired, but the vehicle lost all power again, while driving 25 MPH. …”

NHTSA complaint #10173728, filed 2006-11, 113,000 miles

“Transmission failure at 74,912 miles which requires replacement of the chrysler grand Voyager's transmission at a cost of $1800.00. The transmission in my 1990 grand Voyager also failed. The cost of that repair was paid by chrysler through a recall. Chrysler has not offered to contribute to the cost of the 1995 grand Voyager transmission repair. In addition, we have contacted two chrysler dealers regarding repair of the vehicle and they gave conflicting stories of how the transmission should be repaired and the frequency of transmission failures in grand voyagers. …”

NHTSA complaint #713702, filed 1999-10

“Traveling 40mph applied gas pedal, but vehicle had no power. Would start to shake. Transmission gears not shifting correctly. Had it replaced. The 2nd transmission felt like it needed a tune up. After tune up, vehicle still not picking up power. Vehicle was shaking & rattling. Also had the mounts replaced & checked the axle. Nothing was wrong.”

NHTSA complaint #873331, filed 2000-10

“Will not go into reverse or shift into high gear when cold. When does shift into reverse, car lunges backwards suddenly. Problem ongoing for 2 years. Works great after car is warmed up. Have had garages check it out and state they don't believe it is a transmission problem but will rebuild if I want to. Have changed transmission fluid and oil routinely.”
