“I had the car only 10 days from the dealership, my husband and I were on the highway heading to an event when we heard a crack, I looked up and there was a horizontal crack heading from left to right in the windshield.”

NHTSA complaint #11375885, filed 2020-11, 400 miles

“On 3 Occasions the Eyesight automatic braking activated with no apparent reason. The first was at highway speeds, second at 45mph and the third at about 30/35mph. In the first case a car entered the lane but there was considerable distance. In the second a car made a right turn into my lane and was slow but there was about 1/4 mile or more space and the last one occurred as, my wife, followed the curve of the road to the right. There were no vehicles near by only a median. In each case there was no gradual slow down only a full force application of the brakes. …”

“The contact owns a 2021 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled. During the failure the Eyesight message was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the thermal control valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The thermal control valve was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure informed of the extended warranty coverage related to the failure. The failure mileage was 18,640.”

NHTSA complaint #11675847, filed 2025-07, 18,640 miles

“Eyesight driver assist went out rendering safety features inoperable. Touch screen also blanked out so unable to adjust a/c, navigation, radio etc. Car had been on long distance all hiway drive and at 7 hours systems failed. Weather was in the 60s, overcast and it was in the afternoon. Pulled into rest stop and turned engine off then restarted but still failed. Drove 2 more hours and next rest stop systems came back after letting car sit off for 10+ minutes.”

NHTSA complaint #11546909, filed 2023-09

“The main computer system that controls the eyesight system, cruise control, lane departure, all HVAC controls, navigation, etc. Shuts down (goes black), and reboots randomly. When this occurs, all of the functions and controls associated with the computer system are lost. Cruise control drops out and the built in safety features are disabled. It is distracting to the driver and requires the driver's attention to reset features that were lost. It is a known problem by Subaru and has not been fixed on my vehicle for over a year now. …”
