Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The main vehicle screen stopped working. Complete loss of rear camera image display when reverse gear is selected, resulting in reduced rear visibility when backing. No control over battery charging commands. Many times when I place the vehicle in reverse the camera would not display a rear image. Now my screen is completely black and nonreponsive”

NHTSA complaint #11338496, filed 2020-07, 36,000 miles

“I have the media control unit (mcu 1) and it pretty routinely shuts down while driving which causes a loss of major component functionality. I saw that NHTSA is asking Tesla for a recall to replace and I think it's really important that Tesla do recall these vehicles because the software updates are insufficient to fix the problem. The mcu just needs to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #11388849, filed 2021-01, 50,000 miles

“My media control unit (ipad screen-like) crashes, is incredibly slow and doesn't load internet feature that was promised. Took to Tesla multiple times and they said it's normal and their future updates will address this. This was said last year, and my internet still doesn't work (even under strong wifi). Crashes periodically and very slow.”

NHTSA complaint #11331563, filed 2020-06, 43,000 miles

“Main display stopped working today (june 30th 2020). Now HVAC, radio, sunroof, rear camera, indicator light noise, and a few other functions don't work. This seems to be the emmc memory write failure issue. The car was stationary when I noticed the issues, since I just got into the car and immediately noticed main display was dead.”

NHTSA complaint #11331798, filed 2020-06, 36,433 miles

“The touchscreen in my 2015 Model S has completely failed. I've attempted all of the resets that Tesla recommends to restart the system to no avail. The car is nearly useless, none of the electrical features of the vehicle work, including heating/air conditioning, charging features, audio or turn signals. The car worked fine yesterday, today the screen was just gone.”
