“I am writing to formally raise a serious concern regarding the functionality of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. On May 11th, while the vehicle was operating under FSD, I experienced an unexpected disengagement of the system, which then reengaged on its own without any input from me. This erratic behavior caused the vehicle to hit the garage door and resulted in a crash.”
NHTSA complaint #11745951, filed 2026-06“When using Tesla Autopilot (Adaptive Cruise Control) Tesla Curvature Assist will engage on straight roads during nice weather and great forward visibility. When Tesla Curvature Assist engages, the car brakes and slows dramatically. I have had drivers behind me think I was brake checking them or messing with them. This feature is dangerous and there is not an option to disable.”
NHTSA complaint #11682599, filed 2025-08“I engaged Tesla autopilot (FSD) as I left my house to pick up my son. The car started accelerating and swerved sharp left and ran over one of our neighbors' front yard leaving damages to their yard as well as my car. All 4 tires and wheels are damaged as it ran over the concrete curve and the front bumper of the car is damaged.”
NHTSA complaint #11613096, filed 2024-09“My chat constantly phantom brakes. This is a constant issue, I ve had the car since it was new and almost everytime im in adaptive cruise control it randomly brakes. Today with nothing in front of my on 3 separate occasions it applies the brakes and forces me to accelerate to maintain speed.”
NHTSA complaint #11762300, filed 2026-09“Phantom braking occurs under too many scenarios common on 2-lane roads to mention them all. Sometimes the car decelerates so rapidly for no apparent reason I'm concerned I'll be rear-ended. Even in good weather, lighting, road surface, etc. The car sometimes seems to be guessing about hazards and slowing down for no reason, sometimes very abruptly.”
