“I am writing to formally raise a serious concern regarding the functionality of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. On May 11th, while the vehicle was operating under FSD, I experienced an unexpected disengagement of the system, which then reengaged on its own without any input from me. This erratic behavior caused the vehicle to hit the garage door and resulted in a crash.”
NHTSA complaint #11745951, filed 2026-06“My chat constantly phantom brakes. This is a constant issue, I ve had the car since it was new and almost everytime im in adaptive cruise control it randomly brakes. Today with nothing in front of my on 3 separate occasions it applies the brakes and forces me to accelerate to maintain speed.”
NHTSA complaint #11762300, filed 2026-09“Cruise was control set to 70 mph while I was driving on a highway. There were no cars in front of me, there was a van following behind at a safe distance. As I drove up a hill on the highway my car suddenly decelerated. I did not get to see what my speed reduced to, but it was very dramatic, and I would estimate a slow down of 20 mph in a very short distance.”
NHTSA complaint #11454175, filed 2022-02“When using the cruise control, the vehicle will suddenly brake losing 20MPH before I can react. It has always happened on the interstates, often with no other vehicles in front of me. On the last 2 day trip the brakes applied themselves at least 6 times. I can no longer use the cruise control as I'm afraid somone behind me will crash into me. Tesla has been no help.”
NHTSA complaint #11480639, filed 2022-08“We were on the highway the power went out. The car did not have emergency brake . We could have gotten hit. We finally was able to stop on the shoulder with the driver not letting go off his foot pedal to keep the car from moving. We called Tesla and he wasn’t able to restart the car and yet he said the car has lots of power. The back door doesn’t open in an emergency as well”
