“GOODYEAR TIRE, 255/40R20 101W XL I have had to replace 5 tires on my Tesla in 13 months. 3 were from nails, one was from running over a pothole and one was flat from an unknown cause. I have been told by multiple people in the car maintenance field that the tires are not appropriate for the weight of the vehicle therefore are far more prone to imbedded nails and other spontaneous road hazards. I only do basic city driving and avoid industrial/construction zones when able. Also, 2 out of the 5 times I have had a tire with low pressure, the vehicle has indicated the wrong tire. …”

“The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Michelin Pilot Sport, Tire Size: 255/35/ZR21, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the rear driver’s side tire experienced a blowout. The contact was able to safely pull off the roadway and wait for towing assistance. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to American Depot Tires. The contact stated that all four tires were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. …”

“255/45R19 104W XL. I had a flat tire right in the middle of a fast perfectly smooth highway while traveling with a baby, the car is just beyond a month old and it seems the TPMS system failed and the tire has to be replaced at the customer's cost.”

NHTSA complaint #11490768, filed 2022-10

“I am reporting a potentially serious tire safety failure involving a Continental ProContact RX, size 255/45R19 104W XL, installed on a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The tire was purchased new and installed by Tesla on January 15, 2026. In September 2026, while driving, the tire experienced a sudden catastrophic failure. The sidewall was extensively torn and separated circumferentially around the wheel, while substantial portions of the tread remained intact. The tire carcass was left hanging around the wheel. This was not simply a small puncture or localized cut. …”

NHTSA complaint #11769931, filed 2026-10

“A tire experienced a sudden bead-area blowout while the vehicle was traveling at freeway speed. There was no pothole, curb, debris, or roadway impact. The failure occurred approximately ten days after installation. Inspection shows failure at the tire bead adjacent to a wheel defect. The wheel was represented as new at installation but shows evidence of prior material removal and cosmetic reconditioning, including rounded aluminum exposure and surface striations inconsistent with fresh impact. The compromised wheel-tire interface caused sudden bead unseating and rapid air loss.”
