Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Found water in the add actuator. 4RUNNER was 2k miles out of warranty when the issue came up. 4wd indicator light would blink endlessly. Could not make it up the muddy road to my house because the 4wd would not engage. I was unable to use any of the 4wd functions. Some days it would turn off traction control and the ABS light would come on. I took it to 2 Toyota dealerships both wanted 360$ just to look at it and there was no guarantee they could give it back to me. I refused being that they wanted to remove the main computer and master brake cylinder. …”

“My husband parked the car on a hill in front of a gas station and I stayed in the car sitting on the passenger seat and it just rolled down the hill, caused an accident to a parked car getting gas, I jumped out of the car as it rolled towards a gas pump , slammed on to pump guard. Thankfully no one was hurt but me when I jumped out of the car.police report filed”

NHTSA complaint #11194428, filed 2019-04

“I came home from work and reversed my 4RUNNER into my garage as I normally do. The next morning, my 4RUNNER starts and the engine sounds normal but it won't move when I shift the gear from park to drive. I stepped on the gas while leaving the gear in drive, the RPM moves but the 4RUNNER stayed in the same spot.”
