Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My Toyota Tacoma door handle fails to open from the inside. My truck has around 13,000 miles on it and I’ve only opened that door maybe 100 times over the past year. Toyota claims it’s a wear issue but multiple posts have similar incidents with no damage to them. They just fail to work. If I had a medical emergency with my type 1 diabetes or an accident and couldn’t get out of the car it could be extremely dangerous.”

NHTSA complaint #11771822, filed 2026-10

“I am filing this complaint regarding my Nuna RAVA convertible car seat. The seat’s harness straps have loosened unexpectedly, even when fully tightened according to the instruction manual. While I have been able to get them to stay tight, I have to constantly monitor them for potential slippage. This unpredictability is concerning because it could compromise my child’s safety in the event of a crash.”

NHTSA complaint #11685417, filed 2025-09

“I was unable to exit my vehicle because my driver door handle wouldn’t open my door….I had to call for assistance in a disabled parking space at the Veteran hospital to open the door from the outside because I was unable to reach the outside handle due to my disability.”

NHTSA complaint #11771763, filed 2026-10

“Driver side rear passenger inside door handle broke. I do rarely have rear passengers. I can count on one hand the times I’ve had rear passengers. This week I had a rear passenger and the door handle broke. The passenger did not abuse the handle. It was regular force used yet it still broke. Online community groups for my vehicle show that this has been happening alot to other 4th gen Tacomas. Not just rear drive door like mine but drive door as well”

NHTSA complaint #11769590, filed 2026-10

“Door Handle on inside broke, preventing normal egress. Yes is has been verified by dealership and they wait for parts for repair. No lamps or warnings. Door just quit functioning. As I am disabled this may be more alarming for me than others.”
