“I had my clock spring replaced last year due to the recall, then had my air bag replaced a month ago. The recall for the clock spring stated that the airbag replacement may cause the clock spring to fail. But since I had the clock spring replaced before the airbag I am apparently not subject to have any failure since it was a new part. Well guess what happened my clock spring sure enough failed 1 month after the air bag was replaced. I guess vw did a great job mitigating that disaster.”

NHTSA complaint #11056063, filed 2017-12, 115,000 miles

“Hello, I have a 2010 vw CC. My airbag light has come on and my horn and steering wheel controls don't work. Volkswagen does have a recall for the clockspring which would fix all this but my VIN is not covered under this recall even though some of the same cars and same year are covered. I called them and they said I would have to go get it fixed at a dealership and I would maybe get a refund. Since then my steering wheel light has came on and it is very hard to turn. I can't believe they wouldn't cover this. …”

NHTSA complaint #10853479, filed 2016-04, 60,000 miles

“While driving my vehicle, I heard a low pop, the vehicle would not turn and collided with 4 other parked vehicles. Upon inspecting my car after the incident, the right front wheel was completely unhinged from the vehicles steering and suspension system. Vehicle towed to body shop and upon further inspection in the day time, the entire lower and upper control arm had completely failed. The right front axle was ripped from the steering knuckle, a part of the lower control arm where the bushing would be was broken. …”

NHTSA complaint #10935667, filed 2016-12, 86,000 miles

“Vehicle makes a grinding and creaking sound from steering assembly. I am aware of several other vw/audi models (a4, CC, passat, jetta, gti) experiencing the same issue. Volkswagen is aware of this issue and has refused to put out a recall or fix the issue under warranty or good will. As per dealer recommendation, if the issue goes unfixed could result in a fatal accident due to potentially losing complete steering without any warning. Was told by dealership that I need to replace the whole steering assembly. The vehicle is barely 5yrs old and less than 70k miles. …”

NHTSA complaint #10725966, filed 2015-06, 59,666 miles

“Vehicle makes a grinding and creaking sound from steering assembly. When turning steering wheel to left or right, there is a groan, grinding or whirring sound emitting from the steering assembly; there is also the occasional popping sounding from either left or right, depending on direction and angle of steering input. There is also a creaking sound that can be heard from the right / passenger wheel when traveling at low to moderate speeds”
