“I was driving with Travel Assis on, the car steered left into the center divider then swerved right into other lanes… I was unable to regain control of steering wheel or break to deactivate travel assist for about 10 seconds, the steering wheel felt stuck in the direction that Travel Assist was steering to.”

NHTSA complaint #11642645, filed 2025-02

“While driving the vehicles safety features automatically turn off and the screens in the car go blank and then come back on after a few minutes. When we contacted the dealer and the manufacturer we were told there was no fix and to just pull over and restart the car. The dealer told us to treat it like a cell phone that isn’t working and just turn it off and turn it back on.”

NHTSA complaint #11630765, filed 2024-12

“I was driving the freeway and suddenly I lost control of the steering wheel for a few seconds. My car suddenly went left & right by itself & I could not control it. I didn't turn on the lane assistance mode. It was terrifying since I drove the freeway all the time & had never happened. This could be very dangerous when the freeway is busy. I would have been hitting another cars. I heard many people reported the same issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11533122, filed 2023-07

“There is a recall on this vehicle and is very dangerous to drive. The screens go dark and we are unable to see how fast we are going. When this happens we also do not know if any of the safety features work. I have been told by the local VW dealer that as of right now there is no fix to this recall. I feel that VW should have better options for the consumer to be taken out of this vehicle. This is very dangerous and could really cause a lot of harm.”

NHTSA complaint #11615743, filed 2024-09

“My wife was involved in an accident where the car (2023 VW ID4) drove itself and crashed into six parked cars while she was attempting to apply the brakes and had no control of the steering (it drove itself). I had the insurance carrier pull down the EDR data (attached) and I have attached the Police Accident Report (attached) for your review. Thankfully, no one was injured and I have enough liability coverage to cover the property damage but would like to see this matter investigated realizing we were lucky the next person may not be.”
