“Exact model of tire is not found in the drop down menu. Dunlop sp sport 01 a/s. Size 225/40r18 92h. A bubble in the sidewall developed after 9,000 miles with no accident. This weakness in the tire can very easily lead to blowouts. If the bubble occur on the inside of the tire, it can go unnoticed. This is a common problem with this specific tire and many vehicles use this tire as the original equipment.”

NHTSA complaint #10565878, filed 2014-02, 6,500 miles“Tire size 205/50R17 Tire belt broke without warning and caused a large bubble in the side of my tire. Tire was out of balance and the cars stability was immediately reduced while on the highway. Had to be replaced with only 8,000 miles on it.”
NHTSA complaint #11715859, filed 2026-02“The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta equipped with continental, tire line: conti pro contact, and tire size: 225/45/r17 tires DOT number: p5py3xh6. The contact stated that three out of four tires exhibited cracks on the side walls. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the tires needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The tires had been replaced. The failure mileage of the tire and vehicle was 40,000.”
