“I just returned my leased 2017 Tiguan and leased a 2022 Taos. The Taos does not have a front passenger seat height adjustment. When I test drove the Taos, the tall vw salesperson was sitting in the front passenger seat while I was driving and my girlfriend was sitting in the back seat. The VW salesperson did not tell me that there is no front passenger seat height adjustment. My girlfriend cannot see over the dashboard when sitting in the front passenger seat. …”
NHTSA complaint #11428745, filed 2021-08“On two occasions our Taos, when put in drive rolled backwards on a slight grade when the brake was released. The dealership says they cannot replicate the problem and suggests waiting 1.5 to 3 seconds after shifting to drive before releasing the brake. I don't think this is standard procedure, at least in any car I've ever driven and I've never heard of such a procedure in any car. In addition, the airbag light on the dash is currently on. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a damaged wire under the passenger seat. …”
NHTSA complaint #11556461, filed 2023-11“the brake hubs started smoking and got hot. 9/13/26 I was rear ended but no warning was initiated or airbag. now I have no brake pads and was unable to stop. I had an oil change due 30thousand miles but Affenburg in Shilo IL turned me away. I'm not happy with the maintenance people for not helping this last year. I was not informed of my last recall or brake extension. this is a new car 2022 I expect better safety reminders and connection from Volkswagen. The bad brake system doesn't work. I do love my Taos as I feel it was made for me but the company is bad about honoring warranty issues.”
NHTSA complaint #11773049, filed 2026-10“UNKNOWN The vehicle lost all functionality and did not respond to any commands/requests made by the driver until railroad tracks caused the vehicle to stop and all side airbags to deploy. My girlfriend and myself were at fear for our lives as google maps was attempting to take us unto a bridge when the vehicle became unresponsive while driving. Consequently, we had to choose hard soil as the brakes and steering would not react to any of the drivers commands. I received a parcel of mail about the recall 2 days after the accident in the mail. …”
NHTSA complaint #11531830, filed 2023-07“I was driving down the interstate on 6/24/2022 with ACC turned on and was in traffic. The semi truck in front of me came to a complete stop, but my VW Taos did not stop or slow down, so I had to intervene in order to prevent an accident. After I came to a complete stop, my vehicle started beeping, flashing errors on the dashboard for every safety system on my car including the Airbags, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brakes, all Safety Sensors, Cruise Control, and something called Brake Booster. It stayed like this for about 10 minutes. …”
