“This vehicle has a known manufacturer defect of the head gasket, causing coolant to leak out, and possible engine overheating. This issue was announced in a service bulletin by Volkswagen in 2023 but a recall was not issued. I did not find out about this until after my warranty expired, and the dealership recommended a $5,000 replacement.”
NHTSA complaint #11764661, filed 2026-09“Went into Volkswagen dealership as my low coolant light came on. I called early June, they couldn't get me in until June 17th, when I was then told my warranty was barely a week expired. My head gasket needs replaced and Volkswagen is refusing to cover this, knowing full well this has been an issue on thousands of these vehicles.”
NHTSA complaint #11671560, filed 2025-07“In the two years I have had this car it has gone into limp home mode stating “start/stop error” while I am drivig the vehicle. I have taken it to my dealership and they will not do anything to fix the problem. The vehicle has also cut off twice while I am driving it with no warning lights which has caused other Volkswagen models to be recalled”
NHTSA complaint #11594947, filed 2024-06“I currently only have 18,000 miles on the vehicle and the low coolant light has came on twice. I took the vehicle in and the second time they said that I have a blow head gasket. The parts are on back order and I have been waiting for over 2 months for repair.they refuse to give me a loaner and I have been driving the vehicle since the diagnosis.”
NHTSA complaint #11540788, filed 2023-08“Stepping in the gas, the car takes about 4-5 seconds before it speeds up after each stop. When pulling out of a drive, the car sputtered and the check engine light was flashing and the Start/stop error came on. The delayed driving happens every time I drive the car. Only have about 44k miles on it. I have had multiple people almost rear end me. I have had the car for about 3 weeks now.”
