“I purchased my 2018 Volvo XC90 t6 awd (hereinafter, the '2018 XC90' or 'the vehicle') in october 2017, through lease agreement. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that the fuel efficiency of the vehicle was well below the epa rating and warranted range, based on representations by the dealer at, and prior to, the time of sale. I took the vehicle to the dealer's service department, so the issue could be investigated further. The dealer reported there was a software update that addressed the problem, and that it would no longer be an issue. …”
NHTSA complaint #11152941, filed 2018-11, 11,500 miles“Check engine light came on, dealership inspected and determined the fuel filler pipe had a leak which was replaced under warranty (23k miles). I was informed this is a common issue with the XC90 and they too were surprised a recall has not been issued.”
NHTSA complaint #11243142, filed 2019-08, 23,000 miles“At approximately 6:30 PM, after normal driving and parking at a local park, our family was unloading children from the vehicle. One child was standing next to the vehicle while we removed a younger child from the rear seat. The child suddenly screamed and stated that he had burned himself. We later determined that he had accidentally come into contact with the exterior exhaust outlet. As we continued walking, we noticed the injury was more severe than initially believed. We took photographs of the burn and later sought medical evaluation. …”
NHTSA complaint #11744366, filed 2026-06“The vehicle engine will fail while driving. The electronics reflect the vehicle is still running. Restarting is not immediate and is difficult. This is a known problem that Volvo recalled for 2019/2020 XC90s. Volvo will not diagnose and repair under goodwill despite my repeated attempts.”
NHTSA complaint #11655417, filed 2025-04“Check engine light came on. Fuel filler pipe had to be replaced. This has happened three times and has been replaced three times. The car only had 13k miles for the third replacement.”
