“I am requesting that BMW North America open a formal Customer Relations case regarding a front differential failure on my 2023 BMW X7 M60i. At approximately 60,000 miles, I began experiencing a whining/howling noise that increased with vehicle speed, along with a metallic grinding noise from the front drivetrain area. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed, and during the diagnostic process the front differential fluid was drained and inspected. A significant amount of metal shavings and metallic debris was found in the differential oil, indicating internal component wear. …”

“Our vehicle dies while driving down the highway, twice now in less than 30 days. I drivetrain and low-power warning came on, but the car died and wouldn't start. The obvious risk is that we were driving on the highway and barely avoided being in an accident as I tried to steer us off the road. The second time we were at a park. In both instnances, the temperature was over 100 degrees and my 3 and 5 year old both got sick from overheating. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere. The dealership said it probably just overheated, we couldn't find anything but assure us it won't happen again. …”

NHTSA complaint #11534138, filed 2023-07

“The mechatronics unit failed in the automatic transmission. Vehicle was no longer in gear causing it to stall, and drivetrain warning message was produced. This happened twice in the same day July 6th 2026. BMW was contacted, they retrieved the vehicle. Since the problem was intermittent they scanned the vehicle logs and sent to BMW North America for diagnosis. Initial repair was reprogram. During the test drive vehicle stalled directly out side of dealership and was pushed back in. On July 20th vehicle was diagnosed with a failed mechatronics unit which controls the transmission internally. …”
