“I parked my vehicle ay home, and when I went to get out, the inside door handle broke right off. The only way to get out was to roll down the electric window and reach out to the outside door handle. From some research I did this breaking off is a common problem. What I was concerned about if for some reason like an accident I couldn't get the window down, I would be stuck in the vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10721134, filed 2015-05, 13,011 miles“I parked my car and went to open the door, the door handle broke off in my hand. Because I was so shocked by this happening it took me a few minutes to realize I could roll down the window and open the door from the outside. If this happened to someone during/after an accident it could have serious consequences.”
NHTSA complaint #10481080, filed 2012-10, 115,000 miles“I currently own a 2006 Chevrolet HHR. On 1-13-11, I had the interior door handle break off in my hand making it impossible to open the door from the inside of the car. This is a huge safety hazard while driving the car. Upon further research on car forums online, I am not the only person that has had this problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10376757, filed 2011-01, 172,000 miles“2006 chevy HHR . The drivers side door interior door handle snapped off in my hand when I tried to open the door, smacking into my knuckle and almost causing my hand to fly back into my face. The door must now be opened by rolling down the electric window and opening from the outside handle. Two dealers so far refuse to fix the issue, telling me they don't have parts.”
NHTSA complaint #10330475, filed 2010-05, 45,000 miles“My driver and passenger inside door handles broke off and I have to roll down my windows to exit and if my car is involved in a emergency I would not be able to exit quickly and I've done some checking on line and discovered its a on going problems with them.”
