“I have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with chronic brake problems. In the 5 years I've owned it, I've had to replace the brake shoes and surface the rotors every year (and replace rotors once) because of a vibration in the front brakes. Chevrolet refuses to cover this abnormal behavior under warranty and requires that I pay for the repair every time.”

NHTSA complaint #10128246, filed 2005-07, 18,000 miles

“The day may 13, 2009 my wife was driving the vehicle for about hillsborough avenue at 12: 15 a day. Another vehicle driving in the opposite direction crossed the street to enter the parking lot of ross. My wife quickly use the brakes but the vehicle was when collided with the other vehicle stopped. My wife suffered trauma to the spine and neck. Breaking the 5th lumbar vertebra and herniated cervical. Never again could work or it could operate. Requires a spinal fusion which costs $ 80,000.00. Now we know why the vehicle did not stop and did not prevent the accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10632610, filed 2014-09, 85,000 miles

“Brake pads and rotors replaced in sept, 2002 and again in dec, 2002. Brakes still scrub and squeal when braking. This is a problem that general motors I have been told knows about. Why hasn't there been a recall. This makes for a bad reputation. I will never buy another Malibu and maybe not even a Chevrolet product.”

NHTSA complaint #10000217, filed 2002-12, 74,000 miles

“Vibrating brakes. Calipers and rotors ceazing up this will be the 6 time I ahve had to bring this car in for the same thing I am told that the alipers ceaze up which in turn wears the rortors down which in turn wears the brake pads down and nobody knows why. Also had to replace fuel pump”

NHTSA complaint #10016792, filed 2003-04, 38 miles

“The brake pulsate and grind. I have had this problem for 2 yrs now. I have had the braking system completly replaced. Brake pads, rotors, calipers, master cylinder, brake fuel lines, you name it and it has been done. I replaced the brakes with GM parts. I need new brakes again. My car could not stop in time to prevent an accident. It is awful. When the calipers were installed they make clicking sounds I was told this was ok. Also, if I apply the brakes when going over bumps in the road the ABS goes off.”
