Example complaints

Electrical system: “When I attempt to turn off my vehicle, the key will not rotate to the off position..therefore, the key is stuck in the ignition and the car is still on, draining the battery. I took the car to a dealership in 2013 and told nothing was wrong with it but they charged me $165.00 to put in a new ignition. The problem was intermittent until december 2014 and now the key is permanently stuck in the ignition and if I want to drive my car, I have to charge the battery every time I drive it. Gm just recalled the cobalt and hhr for the same issue. …”

NHTSA complaint #10672082, filed 2015-01, 90,000 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “I was at a red light and the light turned green and I pressed on the accelerator and the engine revved way up but I did not go anywhere, and then kind of clunk and it seemed to have popped in gear. The amount of torque that was delivered to the wheels caused me to veer into the lane next to me that had already began to move. A semi truck almost hit me!”

NHTSA complaint #10572914, filed 2014-03, 76,000 miles

Steering: “Power steering assist fails at slow speeds making parking difficult and turning the wheel while stopped difficult. Steering wheel binds and is resistant when this happens, and is most notable after vehicle is hot and has reached temperature. Some clatter noise occurs when this happens. I did complain to the dealer in detail while under warranty, but was told that nothing was found. Warranty has since expired , and I suspect that this problem either has no solution or would not be handled with a satisfactory outcome. …”

NHTSA complaint #10432685, filed 2011-10, 40,000 miles
