“I went to have an oil change and when the garage went to lift the truck the frame buckled. There was so much rust damage that the frame was soft in numerous places. The 1999 silverado z71 1500 truck is an lt with only 104,000 miles. It has been garaged since I purchased it new. It looks and runs great! The brake lines rusted out 10 years ago and I replaced with stainless steel lines.”
NHTSA complaint #11208180, filed 2019-05, 104,000 miles“I have a 1999 SILVERADO 1500 I had the brake lines replaced in july 2014 because of corrosion. Then yesterday november 4th 2014 I had the truck to a shop getting tires put on and when they started to lift it the rear end started to sag. They let it down and noticed rust holes in the frame. This truck is not safe to drive and GM needs to post a recall on these problems!”
NHTSA complaint #10652654, filed 2014-11, 220,800 miles“Driving into a parking lot and when I turned and went into lot (there was a slight decline) and then flat parking lot. I heard a loud noise and the bed of the truck pushed into the cab as the frame snapped. There are 12 other known instances that have notified GM and they have refused any action to correct. My 3 yr son was in the truck when this occurred as well as my wife and fortunately we were not injured.”
NHTSA complaint #10638823, filed 2014-09, 132,411 miles“Was driving and noticed that the brake pedal felt sloppy. Upon investigation I had to replace all rear brake lines, and one of the front do to rust. As I was replacing these I noticed that the frame was rusted and cracked on the drivers side under the door. I had a patch put in, but just the other day I also noticed a new spot on the frame where it bends on the passenger side right behind the motor. The frame is so weak in this spot, I don't believe that it can be repaired.”
NHTSA complaint #10785870, filed 2015-10, 105,000 miles“1999 Chevrolet truck, frame is rusting at an alarming rate. All of the brake lines have been replaced after two different failures. At age 70 and having worked on cars for years as a hobbie, I have never see a vehicle rust so bad. The brake lines were gone. I could have wrecked because of the failure.”
