“While driving the vehicle the tailgate came open by itself. I had left my house and when I arrived at my friend’s house to pick him up the tailgate was down. I closed the tailgate and while driving a driver honked their horn to alert me that something was wrong. When I pulled off the road the tailgate had come open for a second time.”

NHTSA complaint #11707312, filed 2025-12

“This vehicle is equipped with remote tail gate release which can be activated without the knowledge of the driver allowing items to fall from vehicle and promote a dangerous outcome. An example is this morning the tailgate released after I stopped at a gas station and I had a piece of equipment fall from the vehicle. Thankfully no other vehicle was struck but this does pose a safety risk”

NHTSA complaint #11528247, filed 2023-06

“My tailgate has opened without activation 3 times while on roadways sending cargo to the road. This fortunately has not causes an accident (that I know of) but the potential obviously does exist as a vehicle may need to make an emergency lane change to avoid hitting a toolbox, crate, or other cargo that I may be carrying as I use my truck to work with. 2 of three times I was made aware and returned to clear the roadway further endangering myself. I have current cleared my pickup bed of all cargo as I no longer trust the tailgate from spewing cargo to the roadway.”
