“I was driving home after moritz Chevrolet in fort worth, texas replaced a passengers door module. While driving 5-10 MPH, the steering wheel locked during left and right turns and the engine shut down. After I restarted the truck, the steering wheel went back to normal. I almost hit a curb after making a right turn. I'm afraid to drive my truck, because I could have been in an accident if I were going any faster.”

NHTSA complaint #10498089, filed 2013-02, 60,292 miles

“I was trying to parallel park when it became very difficult to turn steering wheel to the right. Ever since making right hand turns are difficult unless engine rpms are over 2000 mechanic says steering box needs replaced don't know why this isn't a recall I've heard of others having the same problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10472454, filed 2012-08, 66,000 miles

“The intermediate steering shaft on my 2003 Chevrolet silverado pick-up truch is making a klunking noise. The dealer told me there was nothing that they could but lubricate it and that the noise would return within a month. I would like to see a recall on this part of the vehicle before it causes any more trouble. Thank you.”

NHTSA complaint #10062223, filed 2004-03, 20,900 miles

“There is a rubbing and thumping noise coming from the steering column. It only does it at low speeds of 5 to 25 MPH, or when I travel over a rough road, or in or out of a driveway. It's been doing this for several years. Chevy or GM won't repair it without me forking up the money first. It is my understanding that this is an ongoing problem with 1999 through about 2007 chevy and GM trucks. Gm should take the responsibly for this and figure out a way to permanently fix the problem at no cost to the vehicle owner.”

NHTSA complaint #10423224, filed 2011-09, 25,000 miles

“I own a 2003 Chevrolet silverado 4x4 and have had to replace the steering rod once already at about 65,000 miles due to a loud clunking noise and looseness in the steering. This set me back about $300.00 parts and labor. The mechanic told me they have a lot of trouble with this part. I am still having trouble with this as it seems like you are wandering when traveling down the road. I now have 108,000 miles on the truck and plan on keeping it for while longer but this is a safety concern of mine.”
