“I would like to report the failure of both front wheel bearings on my 2004 Chevrolet silverado, 1 in jan09 and 1 in apr09. I think these bearings should last much longer. Part #1523-3113, one lasted 42,304 miles and the other 39543 miles. The truck is used for pleasure driving and prior to failure has never been used for towing.”

NHTSA complaint #10266114, filed 2009-04, 42,304 miles

“I was exiting a highway traveling 35-40 miles per hour. The road had a slight turn to the right with a small puddle of water in the middle of the turn. When I hit the puddle my truck began to fishtail. I first thought I was hydroplaining but when I tried to do corrective steering nothing was working. The swerving got more and more violent and move the truck through 3 lanes of possible on coming traffic. When I reached the berm on the other side of the road there was a loud bang and my truck canto a sudden stop. …”

NHTSA complaint #10356248, filed 2010-09, 101,027 miles

“When braking at 3-5 MPH the brakes pulse like the antilocks are coming on but the light for antilock or low traction did not come on. This was happening almost all the time. Both the front wheel hubs had to be replaced at 38,000 miles!”

NHTSA complaint #10278733, filed 2009-07, 38,000 miles

“While driving the right front factory steel wheel rusted out to the point where the wheel center separated from the outer part of the rim on 4 of the 5 spokes, this caused a dangerous wobble to occur and if the vehicle wasn't being driven in the city I believe this would have resulted in a crash since the wheel was only being held on by 1 of the 5 spokes. Due to the design of these chrome clad wheels you can't see the corrosion that is occuring behind the chrome cladding. …”

“The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet SILVERADO 1500. The contact made a right turn at an unknown speed and the brake light illuminated. He inspected the vehicle and noticed a failure with the wheel. He jacked the vehicle up and noticed that the wheel was loose, and the tire would wobble 3- 4 inches. The contact changed the wheel bearings hub assembly. Two weeks later, the contact heard something coming from the wheel and replaced the other wheel hub assembly. The failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 75,000. Updated 07/15/08 updated 07/15/08.”
